UK Bank Holidays 2020 – One to Watch Out For This Year!

So here we are. A Brand New Year and a Brand New Decade!

Not that we are already looking forward to the next holidays or anything but here’s your guide to the Bank Holidays for the UK for 2020, along with some other notable dates for this year.

There is a big change for 2020 which has already been catching people out

England and Wales Bank Holidays 2020

As normal England and Wales will be getting 8 Bank Holidays in 2020. Bank Holidays for the most part fall on a Monday however there is one big change this year. The early May bank holiday – which usually falls on the first Monday in May – has been moved to Friday the 8th May in order to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

Wednesday 1st January – New Year’s Day

Friday 10th April – Good Friday

Monday 13th April – Easter Monday

Friday 8th May – Early May bank holiday (this is the altered Bank Holiday)

Monday 25th May – Spring bank holiday

Monday 31st August – Summer bank holiday

Friday 25th December – Christmas Day

Monday 28th December – Boxing Day (with Boxing Days usual 26th December falling on the Saturday the Bank Holiday has shifted to the Monday

 

Scotland Bank Holidays 2020

Wednesday 1st January – New Year’s Day

Thursday 2nd January

Friday 10th April – Good Friday

Friday 8th May – Early May bank holiday (this is the altered Bank Holiday)

Monday 25th May – Spring bank holiday

Monday 3rd August – Summer bank holiday

Monday 30th November – St Andrews Day

Friday 25th December – Christmas Day

Monday 28th December – Boxing Day

Northern Ireland Bank Holidays 2020

If you live in Northern Ireland, bank holiday dates differ again, and you will benefit from 10 bank holidays in 2020.

Tuesday 17th March – St Patrick’s Day

Friday 10th April – Good Friday

Monday 13th April – Easter Monday

Friday 8th May – Early May bank holiday (this is the altered Bank Holiday)
